If you need to convince your friends to use Wire or Signal instead of Facebook’s WhatsApp, tell them to watch this talk I gave OVER SIX YEARS AGO:
#introduction #introductions Hey #fediverse I am finally trying to ditch corporate social media and privacy unfriendly apps. During this internal and very difficult process I have discovered the #decentralized terminology. Here I am to meet you all and why not, bring other folks over to the #fediverseSide! I like to use my social media to pick up information on a wide range of topics such as:
#politics #activism #privacy #security #digitalrights #foss #science #localnews #libreplanet #degoogled
✨ Fediverse - Social Reimagined
We should adopt broader perspectives on what #fediverse means. While we consider our app domain in terms of end-users, we look at fedi as an infrastructure layer. It's more than that:
Fediverse is a Social Fabric!
I posted a follow-up to my proposal to start a #FediverseFutures initiative outlining this idea:
https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/fediverse-futures-visions-dreams-feedback-wanted/1238/5
Give your feedback on the #SocialHub forum, so we'll make this #YearOfTheFediverse rock 🚀
Join the initiative?
Boosts welcome.
Peertube v3's support for live streaming is incredibly exciting https://framablog.org/2021/01/07/peertube-v3-its-a-live-a-liiiiive/
obs integration too!
Great news, thank you for your hard work Peertube / Framasoft teams!
If you feel strongly on: Fediverse culture, meta-analysis, commentary, or community here, I think the Fedi at large needs to do some preventative work to ensure that "Fediverse" does not become synonymous with "far right angry people".
I have https://library.activitypub.dev which could use more submissions. We need ppl to encourage reporters to document how Fedi was the "no Trump tweets here" place that mainstream social media is now becoming & the refuge for trans right activists.
More ideas needed.
More-or-less #dumpsterdiving in first person - one can easily find great stuff (even electronics!) by looking into a large dumpster area of rich neighbors.

I should write about this later.
RIP #AaronSwartz, 8 years already : « Information is power. But like all power, there are those who want to keep it for themselves. The world's entire scientific and cultural heritage […] is increasingly being digitized and locked up by a handful of private corporations. » https://openbehavioralscience.org/manifesto
Recently I've been lurking around on #Lemmy and here are some of my preliminary thoughts about this social network.

I wanna give a shout out to a piece of open source android software I have been using lately that I got off fdroid called Antenna Pod.
I was looking for a good podcast app that was simple and worked well and Antenna Pod is definitely that. It works wonderfully and if you are looking for a podcast app on android I highly recommend it.

Learned of another self-hostable, privacy-focused front end similar to Teddit called Libreddit.
Source code: https://github.com/spikecodes/libreddit
Differences as of now are:
- Libreddit mirrors Reddit’s redesign while Teddit mirrors the old.
- Libreddit is written in Rust while Teddit is in Node.js.
Just testing my single-user instance;)
